Duncan Allard was born in Zimbabwe and early on was captivated by the indigenous music of that land. Adopted into the musical tradition of the Shona people, he became of master of song, dance, drumming and playing the mbira, a plucked instrument that resonates within a gourd and produces music that sounds like water dancing over rocks in a stream. Duncan now resides in Berkeley, California, where he is studying for a doctorate in ethnomusicology. He promises not to play the bagpipes (a recent passion of his) while in Ohio.
